hmm – I’d found this already and think it’s a brillant, cynical portrait of an everyday lie-we-choose-to-live-with.
What it’s not:
- coercion
- one-sided.
The situation works for both genders, and in real life, when we don’t love somebody, we simply break up the relationship when we realise the fact. If we don’t, maybe it’s what we want, after all. And sometimes, maybe, a friendship is important even if there are some unreturned feelings involved.
The tragical imagined ending with all the sighing and wistful looks requires a passive, sexist cliché woman, who can’t decide what’s good for her. But of course, having exactly this image of women, and a weird, possessive idea of love is one trait of the “nice guy” character.
