I am wondering where the rest of the comments are.
so… what do you do with them? eat them?

I moderate all comments, and most are not very tasty.
Unfortunately, despite use of Recaptcha, a significant amount of spam still seems to get through, so I have to bin it all for inspection first.
Any *legitimate* comments – even the dissenting ones, are posted.
The old captcha is an outdated technology now.
But, in any case if your goal is to popularize this site then, the comments should be allowed to be posted first and moderated later.
Instead of being treated as innocent until proven guilty your approach is opposite. That approach might work great in personal life but doesn’t win you points for increasing the ‘interesting statistics’.
My goal is not to “popularize” the site at all costs. And certainly not at the cost of allowing really heinous spam postings to appear in the comments. I seriously doubt that the moderation has anything to do with the site’s popularity in any case.
I’d rather keep the quality of the content up, rather than cater to those that seem to need instant ego-stroking gratification in seeing their comments immediately posted.
May be you shouldn’t be bothered with the popularity at all but then why did you bother with the ‘intresting statistics’ then?
If you are really bothered about the quality of the comments then don’t you think that ‘malebag’ and ‘unclassified comments’ dont have a place in the website too? Tell me, what stuff can be posted here that will be worse than the stuff posted there for the entire existence of this website? The truth is – The kind of stuff that is posted in that is far worse than any random comment that might be posted here.
Moderation has nothing to do with site’s popularity, lack of it has. For example, site’s like youtube where there is no moderation are over the top popular. They go a long way in showing the true nature of society in changing opinion and such. You are really being a thought police in telling people what they should post and what is heresy. You are saying it has something to do with the egos of others? Some other people would like to say that it has to do with your controlling nature.
Most people post on websites because it stimulates debates. It Improves their written expression. And by seeing what is really absurd they realize what not to post or what can be posted for absurd or slapstick comic relief.

Vijay, you seem either chronically incapable of getting the point, or just willfully ignorant. For the sake of other readers who may be just as clueless but not as ready to post their misconceptions in this space, let me try to get the point across one last time:
1) I am pleased that the quality of commentary here is of a significantly higher caliber than that of youtube, (your commentary not withstanding).
2) Blatant ads for viagra, rape porn, and other such things may be what *you* deem to be “showing the true nature of society”, but I’m pretty sure the rest of the readership are not interested in seeing that kind of crap clutter up this space, and, more importantly, *I* am not interested in seeing it here. Nor am I interested in wasting valuable database space on that kind of garbage. These are the ONLY things I “moderate” out of the commentary threads. All other legitimate comments are posted.
3) If you don’t like the moderation delay, there is a really easy way to deal with it: GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.
Popular is good, as proven by this old adage, “shit: five billion flies can’t be wrong.”
