state of frustration

And speaking of Macs and arrogance… can someone please explain to me why buying an upgrade to Quicktime Pro is $29.99 for Americans and $37.99 for Canadians? Especially in light of the fact that our dollar is worth MORE than the US greenback? If anything we should be paying LESS than our American cousins and it’s been hovering at or above parity since the end of September. I should think they’ve had time to update their web store by now. Sheer greediness is what it is. They must think we Canadians are all stupid putzs who will keep on paying inflated prices without question.
They certainly make it hard enough to ASK the question. From within the store I could find no “contact” us option for an email address or form to ask about store pricing or Quicktime Pro in general. (I need it to convert some raw DV files that Premiere won’t read.)
Even worse the Apple Store phone agent responded to my query about the price differential by saying, “I’m sorry, but we aren’t allowed to comment about price differences between states.”
I beg your pardon? States?
An arrogant company with ignorant customer service. What a charming combination.

I can’t even get Quicken to let me know what the running (subscription) costs are up front. And it’s not on their website. Now that’s a very sound financial idea – agree to pay for something without finding out how much (even approximately) up front?
As for the states thing, ask most Aussies how many states in the USA and they often come up with 52 – I think they confuse states with playing cards, though it’s easy to add Australia as number 51, and I’ve heard one person add Mexico – although I know the Mexicans would object loudly. But they signed the “free” trade agreement so they might as well be 52, and Canada – I guess that makes 53 – the joker?
Hey Natalie, may I ask how much Nintendo Wii gaming system is going for in your neck of the woods? The prices here are off the hook (since we are so close to “the giving season” here in the U.S.) so now I’m wondering how much they are ATTEMPTING to sell them for in Canada. Hmmm.
We bought a WII back in the summer, when a shipment magically appeared in our local Costco. I immediately called the bf (even though we aren’t gamers, a friend picked one up and it was pretty fun), and said, “They have 30 here on a pallet. They just arrived. Do you want one?”
I think they were $279 back in July, when our dollar was actually worth less than the US dollar. I’ve seen them on at BestBuy for $269.
They ARE a lot of fun. A friend had a “WII Party” back in September, we brought our WII-Motes and we all ate, drank and Weeeeed all night. Got sweaty too. Boxing, tennis, bowling, cow-riding – she has a 42″ widescreen TV in her living room. It just rocks!
Wow, much much cheaper there than here. I think because of the high demand plus it being “the giving season” the prices here are a bit inflated. My ex managed to snag one for my son’s birthday this weekend and got it at “normal” price. Right now, these things are going anywhere from $350 up to $600 depending on the package you get.
Okay, thanks for that info and yes, looking forward to fetching one of these things. Hopefully this Wii will help get my ass off the couch! Ha!
